Keynote
AI is fundamentally changing how knowledge work gets done, and valuation is no exception. In this keynote, Christoph Magnussen shows what generative AI can already do today, where it is heading, and what this means for valuation professionals in their daily practice. Instead of theory, he brings hands-on examples and demonstrates how to move from experimenting with tools to systematically integrating AI into professional workflows.
- Where generative AI stands today and what the next wave of AI agents means for knowledge-intensive professions
- Concrete use cases: how AI can support research, analysis, and report drafting in valuation practice
- From tool tourist to power user: how professionals build real AI competence
- What remains distinctly human: judgment, responsibility, and client trust in an AI-driven world
- Practical first steps to bring AI into daily work, starting today
This keynote session will be held in English language.

- This session is intended to be a complete overview of how AI is changing valuation workflows today — practical uses in research, document review, benchmarking, modeling support, quality control, workpaper documentation, and report drafting
- Where AI adds value and where human judgment still controls — distinguishing automation, augmentation, and professional decision-making Key risks and constraints — reliability, bias, confidentiality, data governance, source traceability, explainability, and regulatory/professional standards including how AI-assisted valuation work can be made defensible through proper documentation, human review, and audit trail procedures
- What valuators should be doing now — governance, tool selection, workflow design, and staff training including confidentiality policies, appropriate use of AI in client engagements, review procedures, and quality-control protocols
- What the profession may look like next — how AI could reshape valuation deliverables, client expectations, pricing, and competitive advantage as well as the future standard of care expected from valuation professionals
This presentation will be held in English.
Why digital assets resist conventional valuation. The absence of recognised standards (IVS, NACVA, ASA) and a critical look at current market practice, from quoted price adjusted for a discount for lack of marketability to the case for fundamental approaches.
Applying a recognised valuation methodology (CDAV) to live assets. Peer-group comparison, income- and cost-based value estimates built from underlying network inputs, and cross-checks that go beyond the quoted price.
Common pitfalls and how to spot them. Self-reported figures that fail an implied-rate sanity check, a hierarchy of trust by data origin, and why source reliability ultimately decides what the numbers are worth.
Hard lessons on tokenomics and dilution. How supply schedules, on-chain buybacks/burns, and non-circulating allocations drive value, and whether fundamental cash flows can realistically outgrow issuance.
This presentation will be held in English.

Parallel Sessions

Relative valuation is among the most widely applied methods in valuation practice. However, traditional approaches based on industry averages or peer group medians exhibit significant conceptual weaknesses: the selection of comparable companies is often subjective, industry classifications remain coarse, and fundamental differences between firms are insufficiently captured. The econometric approaches developed in the literature, typically based on regression analyses, systematically incorporate fundamental factors and improve predictive accuracy, but reach methodological limits due to their underlying assumption of linearity.
A new generation of machine learning techniques – in particular tree-based approaches such as gradient boosting – has demonstrated substantially higher predictive accuracy in academic research. The study by Geertsema and Lu (2023) provides the first systematic evidence of this superiority on a broad empirical basis. In their published form, however, these models are only of limited applicability in valuation practice: they rely on a large number of input variables that are typically unavailable in real-world valuation settings, and their implementation requires considerable technical expertise.
This presentation addresses this gap and offers preliminary insights into how these promising machine learning models can be adapted such that they become genuinely applicable under the conditions of valuation practice while preserving predictive accuracy superior to that of conventional approaches.

Keynote
- In this session, I will talk about the threat that AI poses to much of the bread-and-butter mechanics of finance, whether it be in investment banking, private equity, or consulting.
- I will use my experiences in dealing with bots that have been built specifically around my material, starting with bots that I have approved and given access to, and moving on to darker versions that are designed for scams.
- I will generalize the discussion by talking about what AI will be able to do well (thus displacing humans) and what we will need to do to stay ahead of that threat, again speaking from a personal standpoint.
- During the process, we will talk about corporate finance and valuation.
This Keynote will be streamed live online, including live Q&A

Keynote
Germany’s and Europe’s competitiveness is coming under increasing pressure in an increasingly fragmented global order. The German economy remains stuck in crisis: business expectations among German companies have recently deteriorated again, and investment plans are being viewed with increasing skepticism.
At the same time, megatrends such as decarbonization, digitalization, and demographic change require substantial adjustments, which are further complicated by structural weaknesses. Against this backdrop, the central question arises: How can Europe strengthen investment, raise productivity, and ensure sustainable economic growth?
This keynote session will be held in English language.

- Given its importance in a CAPM environment and the uncertainty involved in its estimation, the market risk premium deserves particular attention
- The reasoning behind the estimation of the MRP provided in publicly available valuation reports is often vague and cryptic; the presentation aims to serve as a practitioner’s guide to estimating implied market risk premia in a simple way, backed by a solid theoretical fundament and scientific evidence
- The interactions between market risk premia and the valuation of a target company are discussed, with emphasis on the IDW S 1 and assumptions for long-term value drivers
- Long-term growth is discussed in more detail, as it is the most controversial input parameter (focal points: circularity problems, uncertainty and growth as a result of other value drivers)
End of the Conference / Closing Reception
We warmly invite all participants to an informal reception with drinks after the conference.
